Mission Statement

Our purpose is to facilitate learning and to teach students. The students are responsible for mastering basic skills, practicing rational thinking skills, demonstrating self confidence, integrity and a positive attitude to becoming productive members of a democratic society within a world of diverse cultures. This schooling will be done by providing a safe and healthy environment, conducive to promoting maximum learning by the student, with a challenging and well balanced curriculum, taught by a caring and professional staff committed to excellence.

School Overview

Escanaba Jr/Sr High School serves students in grades 6 through 12. We are considered a class “B” high school for athletic competition by the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA). We have one of the most well rounded educational programs in the Upper Peninsula with a strong focus on academics, athletics, fine arts, and student activities. All of our teachers are highly qualified and well trained in current educational practices.

We offer all of the core classes in the Michigan Merit Curriculum along with dozens of electives including advanced placement courses in biology, chemistry, statistics, calculus, computer science and English. We are the only local high school offering a variety of advanced placement classes. EHS students also take advantage of dual enrollment opportunities at Bay College and Northern Michigan University, earning a significant amount of college credits each school year.

Our high school sports program serves students in grades 9-12 and includes several offerings during the three high school sports seasons. We offer football, cross-country, sideline cheerleading, girls tennis, and girls volleyball in the fall. Our winter season is the busiest with boys and girls basketball, wrestling, hockey, competitive cheerleading, and bowling. The spring schedule includes track, baseball, softball, boys tennis and golf for boys and girls.

ur junior high sports program serves students in grades 7-8 and includes several offerings during the three school sports seasons. We offer football, cheerleading, and girls' basketball in the fall. Our winter season is made up of boys' basketball, competitive cheerleading and volleyball. The spring schedule consists of track for boys and girls.

The fine arts department is outstanding. We offer band, marching band, orchestra, chorus and chorale. Many of our students have been invited to perform at all-state competitions with several of them earning all-state recognition. Our students perform a fall musical to packed audiences with dozens of students participating both on and off the stage.

Many of our students participate in one of our numerous clubs. The majority of our clubs include service to our community; but they all focus on student fun. At the high school level, our most popular is Key Club, with an average of 100 students participating every year, as well as our very active robotics team (Robomos) that host the only home competition in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There are opportunities for all students, depending on their interests. 

At the junior high level, many of our students participate in one of our numerous clubs. The majority of our clubs include service to our community and all focus on student fun. Our current offering includes SADD, Builders Club, Chess Club, Student Council, Art Club, Drama Club, Jazz Band, National Jr. Honor Society, Snow Club, and Yearbook Club.

It does not matter if you are academic, an athlete, a musician, all three or none of the above. Escanaba Jr/Sr High School has something for you!
